Lazy evening with TV

Last evening after office, for some unknown reason, I felt a little sick and decided to stick to my flat without going out, even for food. So I played NFS (it’s like a regular for the past 3 days) and then felt like giving it a break and switched on the idiot box. As usual, I started flicking through all the channels (remote control is one invention which assists me a lot, I just love it). Some programs made me think for a while. Let me write about those.
The first one is about Indian cricket team winning the first of the best-of-the-three finals against Australia. Sachin Tendulkar played one of his best innings but this win is team effort. Our bowlers bowled pretty well and restricted Aussies to a reasonable score. India did well to win the first game but it’s the series that matters the most. The celebrations should be postponed for a little later. However, this is not what I intend to say in this article. As I was flicking through various Indian news channels, I saw that the news about cricket is being highlighted too much. There’s a program on cricket almost every one hour in almost all these channels. I feel that our media is building a not-so-good hype on cricket. I still remember the shows on these channels when India lost in the first round of the previous World cup.

By-the-way, my hearty congratulations to the Indian Under-19 team for winning the Under-19 world cup. They played well through out the tournament and thoroughly deserved the cup. But, somewhere inside, I felt that the target as per the D/L method was a bit harsh on the South Africans, as usual.

Then, there was this Filmfare awards show on Sony Entertainment Television. As soon as I started viewing this event, Priyanka Chopra was asked by Amrita Arora the reason for attending this event. Miss Chopra answered “I came only for Darsheel Safary. I just love this kid”. This sparked some interest in me and made me view the event for almost a couple of hours. The event was hosted jointly by Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan with Vidya Balan helping them out in the middle. Both are Khans are at their witty best with SRK emerging as the perfect entertainer. The Chote Nawab gave him very good company and kept the audience laughing all the way. They left no stone unturned in their comments ranging from Ranbir Kapoor’s towel drop in Saawariya to Darsheel’s nomination for the Best Actor award. You can see a picture of them doing the infamous towel act, below. Akshay Kumar was hilarious in the middle when both the Khans made fun of him. I just felt that they are ragging him. Deepika Padukone is at her sensuous best and looked so graceful. Vivek Oberoi, Kareena Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh(don’t ask me who this guy is) did well in the dance shows. Overall, this event is better than many recent movies and a total paisa-wasool.
P.S: Is it just coincidence that Vidya Balan took over the Khans as host just when the award for Best director is to be announced for Aamir Khan?

Well, I hope, at least this evening, I'll do something fruitful........
